Sherkin

Sherkin is an exploration of intergenerational experiences and connections based on style and place - Anne and Esme, grandmother and granddaughter. The medium used to shoot the short fashion film is VHS tapes, akin to many family videos evoking a sense of a time gone by while also honouring the past. Sherkin was filmed over the course of 3 months in a series of locations, including Bull Island, Sherkin Island and Ardmore in Ireland.
The narrative that runs through the film follows how these two women are generations apart and have and will experience life in completely different ways, yet the landscapes in which they live stay constant. Within the film the two women never meet, yet are brought together on a deeper level by following in each other's footsteps. Drwaing on parallels of nature's timelines and the human experience which is mirrored in the grandchild and grandmother. Exploring how the grandmother was once like the child running through the landscape for the first time which is reflected in her granddaughter's experience of the same place but in her life. Within Sherkin identities are explored through costumes, which are then staged and captured through the film.
